John S. Hobart Elementary Students Raise $730 In Autism Awareness Fundraiser

Mastic Beach – Students in Danielle Conklin’s class at John S. Hobart Elementary School spearheaded a “Give a Buck for Autism” fundraiser in which they collected $730 to The Flying Point Foundation for Autism which is dedicated to enriching the lives of those with autism.
Ms. Conklin’s class helped spread the word about the three-week fundraiser, collected donations and decorated the halls with pledge forms. Wendy Gotlieb’s class at Tangier Smith Elementary School also contributed by collecting $131 in donations for this effort. “Thank you to the William Floyd school community for supporting our fundraising efforts and for supporting this amazing foundation!” said Ms. Conklin. The proceeds will go toward supporting programs including camp, teacher grants, scholarships, recreational outings and more.
The Flying Point Foundation for Autism is dedicated to enriching the lives of those with autism through opportunity and understanding. Through its efforts, the foundation seeks to raise awareness of the disorder, especially among the peers of those diagnosed with autism. Since 2010, the foundation has been offering an eight-day summer camp in which children with Autism enjoy a traditional camp experience with the support they need to be successful. Additionally, the foundation offers recreational and social programs, including arts and crafts, fitness, seasonal outings and more. Other programs include scholarships, teacher grants and first responder seminars about Autism.
