Two Crashes In Two Days Involving Drivers From The Same Taxi Company; Coram Crash Sends Mastic Man To Hospital

Coram – Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash involving a taxi and motorcycle that seriously injured a Mastic man in Coram on Monday morning.

Jack Monti was riding a 2004 Honda motorcycle northbound on Route 112 when he was struck by a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria that was traveling eastbound on Route 25 and passed through a red light at the intersection.

Monti, 49, was transported by Coram Rescue to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was admitted with serious leg injuries. The driver of the Ford, Mindy Shaw, who was alone in the vehicle, was not injured.

Shaw, 43, of Centereach, was issued a summons for failing to stop at the traffic light.

Both the motorcycle and Ford, which is owned and operated by Lindy’s Taxi, were impounded for safety checks.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
